Understand Your Roofing, Window & Door Warranty

See what Bigfoot covers, find your manufacturer warranty, understand your maintenance responsibilities, and know exactly what to do if something goes wrong.

Bigfoot workmanship coverage and manufacturer product coverage are separate protections. On a roof, window or door project, different components can carry different warranty terms. This page helps you find the right information for your project and tells you who to contact first.

Contact Bigfoot First

Bigfoot stands behind the installation.

  • 10 years workmanship coverage
  • Starts at final inspection / permit closeout
  • Transferable once
  • Bigfoot handles manufacturer claims

Bigfoot's workmanship warranty covers qualifying defects caused by Bigfoot's installation/workmanship, subject to the signed contract and written exclusions. It applies to roofing, windows and exterior doors.

Your 10-year Bigfoot workmanship warranty begins when the project reaches final inspection / permit closeout.

If you sell the property, Bigfoot's workmanship warranty may be transferred once to the next homeowner, subject to the written warranty terms and transfer requirements.

What does workmanship mean?

Workmanship means the installation work itself: how the product was fitted, fastened, flashed, sealed and finished by Bigfoot. A workmanship defect is an installation-related problem. A manufacturer material or product defect is a problem in the product as it was made, which falls under the manufacturer’s written warranty. Bigfoot reviews which one appears to apply before anyone has to guess.

Manufacturer-defect labor

If a manufacturer approves a covered product defect, Bigfoot will coordinate the claim and review the labor needed to complete the repair or replacement. Labor is handled case by case and is typically supported by Bigfoot, but final responsibility depends on the specific warranty, cause, and project circumstances.

We handle required warranty registration

If your manufacturer requires warranty registration for the products Bigfoot installed, our team handles that registration for you when applicable.

Not every product requires registration. Where a manufacturer does require it, Bigfoot takes care of the applicable registration.

Signed contract and written Bigfoot warranty control. The signed contract and written warranty control if there is any conflict with this webpage.

Your project can have more than one warranty

A roof or window project does not necessarily have one single warranty document. Different layers and components may have different terms.

  1. Layer 1

    Bigfoot workmanship warranty

Qualifying installation/workmanship issues. Installation and workmanship — how the product was put in.

  2. Layer 2

    Manufacturer product warranty

Qualifying product defects according to manufacturer terms. The window, door, shingle, tile, metal panel, membrane or other product as it was made.

  3. Layer 3

    Component / system warranties

Roofing projects may have separate coverage for shingles/tile/panels, finish/coating, underlayment, membrane and accessories. Windows and doors may have separate glass, frame, finish, hardware or screen terms.

A standing seam metal roof can have:

  • Bigfoot workmanship warranty
  • Panel/base-metal warranty
  • Paint/finish warranty
  • Coastal finish warranty
  • Underlayment warranty

A window can have:

  • Bigfoot workmanship warranty
  • Frame warranty
  • Glass warranty
  • Finish warranty
  • Hardware/screens warranty

What did Bigfoot install?

Answer one or two questions and we will show the coverage layers that apply. Nothing you choose is sent anywhere; it only changes what is highlighted on this page.

Every roofing system Bigfoot installs, with its warranty layers. Cards for systems whose manufacturer warranty is not yet verified say so instead of stating a term.

Bigfoot currently references the Estima and Tremblant profiles in its approved system content; the installed profile and coating must be confirmed for your roof.

What the manufacturer covers

ES Windows residential warranty certificate

ES Windows publishes its warranty certificate and FAQ. Residential and commercial warranties differ; this page is residential only. Duration varies by product/series, and specific lines can carry specific glass or finish coverage, so no universal term is stated here. ES states manufacturer coverage can include replacement parts/pieces but does not extend to onsite installation/replacement labor; warranty requests generally flow through the original distributor and may need photos/videos. Start with Bigfoot. We will coordinate with ES when appropriate.

The exact product or series matters for this warranty. If you do not know it, contact Bigfoot and we can identify the warranty tied to your order.

What the manufacturer covers

Legacy Lawson Warranty Support (CWS)

Lawson is a retired brand. Service and warranty support transitioned to CWS/Pella, and the warranty documents differ by purchase/install period, so the applicable warranty depends on when your Lawson product was purchased or installed. This is legacy support, not a current-manufacturer warranty. Bigfoot customers should still contact Bigfoot first.

Coverage confidence

Legacy warranty

A warranty still requires proper care.

Manufacturer coverage usually depends on reasonable care. These are the responsibilities that come up most often; the manufacturer’s written instructions for your product are the ones that count.

Windows & Doors

  • Keep tracks clear of sand, dirt and debris so sashes and doors run freely.
  • Keep weep holes open so water drains out instead of pooling in the frame.
  • Operate and, where the manufacturer allows, lubricate hardware as instructed.
  • Clean glass with the manufacturer-approved method; avoid abrasive pads and razor blades.
  • Near salt air, rinse frames, glass and hardware with fresh water as often as the manufacturer directs.
  • Use only approved cleaners; many manufacturers prohibit solvents and harsh chemicals on frames and finishes.
  • Do not add aftermarket film or tint unless the manufacturer permits it in writing.

Roofing

  • Keep the roof, gutters and drains clear of leaves and debris.
  • No unauthorized penetrations or modifications (satellite mounts, solar, vents, ladders) without checking with Bigfoot first.
  • Do not let another contractor work on the roof without telling Bigfoot; unrelated work can affect coverage.
  • Use caution with pressure washing and cleaning; follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance for tile, metal finishes and membranes.
  • Maintain coatings and finishes as the manufacturer directs, especially in coastal exposure.
  • Have the roof inspected periodically where the manufacturer requires it, and keep any receipts the manufacturer asks for.

Always follow the manufacturer-specific care instructions tied to your product.

What warranties usually do not mean

Plain answers to the situations that are most often mistaken for a warranty claim. Manufacturer exclusions differ by product; the list below is what Bigfoot’s workmanship warranty does not automatically cover.

  • A warranty is not homeowners insurance.
  • Storm damage is not automatically a warranty defect.
  • Accidental glass breakage is not automatically covered.
  • Vandalism is not a workmanship claim.
  • Outside impact is not a manufacturing defect.
  • Normal aging is not necessarily a defect.
  • Another contractor’s damage is not Bigfoot workmanship.
  • Failure to maintain can affect manufacturer coverage.

Not automatically covered by the Bigfoot workmanship warranty

The Bigfoot workmanship warranty does not automatically cover conditions caused by:

  • vandalism
  • accidental impact
  • BB guns
  • golf balls
  • landscaping debris / rocks
  • abuse
  • misuse
  • failure to maintain
  • unauthorized modifications
  • other contractors/trades
  • structural or foundation movement not caused by Bigfoot
  • fire
  • flood
  • storm/event damage outside written coverage
  • acts of God
  • normal wear
  • normal aging
  • environmental corrosion where required maintenance was not performed
  • clogged tracks, drains, or weep systems
  • homeowner maintenance items
  • ordinary caulk/sealant aging after proper installation
  • damaged/torn screens unless a manufacturer warranty specifically covers them
  • scratched glass after acceptance unless caused by a covered defect
  • external glass breakage unless a written manufacturer warranty specifically covers it
  • work/products not installed by Bigfoot
  • unpaid balances if the written warranty makes payment a condition
  • repair-only work where a different written warranty applies

Manufacturer exclusions are not identical across brands; each card lists only what its written warranty supports.

Warranty questions, answered

Roofing warranty FAQ

What is the difference between a manufacturer warranty and Bigfoot's workmanship warranty?

They cover different things. Bigfoot’s 10-year workmanship warranty covers qualifying defects in how Bigfoot installed the roof. The manufacturer’s warranty covers qualifying defects in the product itself, under the manufacturer’s written terms. A roof usually has both, plus separate component terms for items like underlayment or finish. Contact Bigfoot first and we will review which one appears to apply.

What is GAF Silver Pledge?

Silver Pledge is an enhanced GAF warranty available only on qualifying GAF systems and projects. Bigfoot registers Silver Pledge where applicable. A GAF roof does not automatically receive it; eligibility depends on the exact shingle, the GAF underlayment and accessory package, and the registration. Read the official GAF residential warranty resources for the current terms.

What is WindProven?

WindProven is the GAF WindProven Limited Wind Warranty for qualifying LayerLock shingle systems installed with the required GAF accessories. Current GAF materials describe a 15-year limited wind warranty with no maximum wind-speed limitation on qualifying systems. Eligibility must be verified for the actual roof; it is not implied for every GAF roof.

Does hurricane damage count as a warranty claim?

Usually not by itself. Storm and hurricane damage is an event, not a workmanship or manufacturing defect, and it is not automatically covered by either warranty. Some products carry specific written wind coverage with conditions, such as qualifying GAF systems under WindProven. Contact Bigfoot first; we will review the cause and tell you whether a warranty or an insurance claim is the right path.

Is a roof leak automatically covered?

No. A leak is a symptom, not a cause. It may come from a qualifying workmanship defect (covered by Bigfoot), a qualifying product defect (reviewed under the manufacturer’s warranty), storm or impact damage, a clogged drain, or work by someone else. Contact Bigfoot first and we will determine what is causing it before anyone assumes coverage.

What happens if another contractor works on the roof?

Work by other contractors or trades is not Bigfoot workmanship, and damage they cause is not covered by Bigfoot’s workmanship warranty. Unauthorized modifications or penetrations can also affect manufacturer coverage. Before anyone else works on the roof, contact Bigfoot so the warranty is protected.

Does underlayment have its own warranty?

Often, yes, as a separate component warranty. Underlayment such as GAF StormGuard/WeatherWatch, Polystick XFR under metal, or Boral TileSeal under tile can carry its own written terms that are different from the roof-surface warranty. Bigfoot shows underlayment as component coverage and never as the primary roof warranty.

Is tile color/finish covered?

Only where the written tile warranty separately covers finish or color. Tile warranties differ by manufacturer and product, and finish terms can differ from the structural tile term. For Newpoint concrete tile, read the official Warranty & Maintenance Guide. Normal weathering and aging are generally not defects.

Is metal roof paint/finish coverage separate?

Yes. Standing seam and metal tile roofs typically carry a base-metal warranty and a separate finish/coating warranty, each with its own written terms. The exact term depends on the coating system installed. Englert, Metal Alliance and BTR Systems each publish their own documents; Bigfoot links the official ones.

What is a coastal metal warranty?

Some metal manufacturers apply different finish warranty conditions to roofs near salt water, sometimes with extra maintenance requirements such as fresh-water rinsing. Englert publishes coastal warranty conditions where applicable. Whether a coastal designation applies to your roof depends on the manufacturer’s written terms and the property’s location.

Are roof warranties transferable?

Bigfoot’s workmanship warranty may be transferred once to the next homeowner, subject to the written warranty terms and transfer requirements. Manufacturer transferability is only what the written manufacturer warranty allows; it is never assumed to match Bigfoot’s, and some manufacturers require notice or a fee. Contact Bigfoot before a sale and we will help.

What maintenance is required?

Keep the roof, gutters and drains clear; avoid unauthorized penetrations; be careful with pressure washing; maintain finishes as directed, especially near salt air; and have periodic inspections where the manufacturer requires them. Always follow the manufacturer-specific care instructions tied to your product, because failing to maintain can affect manufacturer coverage.

Who pays labor if a manufacturer supplies replacement material?

It depends. If a manufacturer approves a covered product defect, Bigfoot will coordinate the claim and review the labor needed to complete the repair or replacement. Labor is handled case by case and is typically supported by Bigfoot, but final responsibility depends on the specific warranty, cause, and project circumstances.

Are commercial NDL warranties included here?

No. This Warranty Center is intentionally focused on residential warranty information.

Window & door warranty FAQ

What is covered by Bigfoot vs the manufacturer?

Bigfoot’s 10-year workmanship warranty covers qualifying defects in how Bigfoot installed the window or door. The manufacturer’s written warranty covers qualifying product defects in the frame, glass, finish, hardware or other components it names, for the term it states. Coverage differs by brand and product, so read the card for your manufacturer. Contact Bigfoot first and we will review which applies.

Who pays labor on a manufacturer claim?

Manufacturer coverage often supplies replacement parts but not onsite labor; ES Windows, for example, states its coverage does not extend to onsite installation or replacement labor. If a manufacturer approves a covered product defect, Bigfoot will coordinate the claim and review the labor needed to complete the repair or replacement. Labor is handled case by case and is typically supported by Bigfoot, but final responsibility depends on the specific warranty, cause, and project circumstances.

Is broken impact glass covered?

Usually, accidental glass breakage is not a manufacturing warranty claim. Damage from landscaping debris, rocks, golf balls, BBs, vandalism, accidents, or other outside impacts is generally outside normal product-defect coverage unless a specific written manufacturer warranty says otherwise. A manufacturing-related glass defect, such as an eligible stress crack or seal/delamination issue, may be treated differently depending on the manufacturer and product. Contact Bigfoot first and we will review the cause and applicable warranty.

Is a stress crack covered?

It may be, depending on the manufacturer and product. An eligible stress crack that originates from the glass itself, with no impact point, can be treated as a manufacturing-related defect under some written warranties; a crack that starts at an impact point is generally not. Send close-up and wider photos to Bigfoot and we will review the cause with the manufacturer.

Is fogging between panes covered?

Fogging or moisture between the panes of an insulated unit is a seal failure, which many written manufacturer warranties treat as a qualifying glass defect for a stated term. Whether it is covered, and for how long, depends on the manufacturer, the product and the glass makeup. Contact Bigfoot first with photos and we will coordinate the claim where appropriate.

Are screens covered?

Screens are manufacturer-dependent. Damaged or torn screens are not covered by Bigfoot’s workmanship warranty unless a manufacturer warranty specifically covers them, and many manufacturers limit or exclude screen coverage. Check the written warranty for your brand, or contact Bigfoot and we will check it for you.

Are locks, rollers, handles, or hardware covered?

Hardware coverage depends on the manufacturer’s written terms, the cause, the age of the product and how it has been maintained. Some brands warrant moving parts for a stated term; wear from use, corrosion where maintenance was not performed, and damage from misuse are generally not defects. Contact Bigfoot first and we will review the cause and the applicable terms.

Is finish fading covered?

Only where the written manufacturer warranty covers the finish for a stated term and the fading exceeds what that warranty defines as a defect. Finish terms differ by brand and by the finish type installed, and normal weathering, chalking within the manufacturer’s tolerance and damage from harsh cleaners are generally not covered. Read your manufacturer’s card or contact Bigfoot.

Is coastal corrosion covered?

Environmental corrosion is generally not covered where the required maintenance, such as fresh-water rinsing near salt air, was not performed. Some manufacturers set specific coastal conditions on finish and hardware coverage. Follow the manufacturer’s care instructions and contact Bigfoot if you see corrosion; we will review the cause and the written terms.

Is caulking covered?

Ordinary caulk and sealant aging after proper installation is a homeowner maintenance item and is not covered by the Bigfoot workmanship warranty. A sealant failure caused by a qualifying installation defect is different. If you are unsure which you are seeing, send photos to Bigfoot and we will look.

What maintenance is required?

Keep tracks and weep holes clear, operate and maintain hardware as directed, clean glass and frames with approved methods, rinse with fresh water near salt air, use only approved cleaners, and do not add film or tint unless the manufacturer permits it. Always follow the manufacturer-specific care instructions tied to your product; failing to maintain can affect manufacturer coverage.

Can aftermarket tint/film affect warranty?

Yes. Many written manufacturer warranties exclude glass damage, such as thermal stress cracks or seal failure, that follows the application of aftermarket film, tint or coatings. Before adding anything to the glass, check the manufacturer’s terms or ask Bigfoot.

Are warranties transferable?

Bigfoot’s workmanship warranty may be transferred once to the next homeowner, subject to the written warranty terms and transfer requirements. Manufacturer transferability is only what each brand’s written warranty allows and is never assumed to match Bigfoot’s. Contact Bigfoot before a sale and we will help with the transfer.

Who registers my warranty?

If your manufacturer requires warranty registration for the products Bigfoot installed, our team handles that registration for you when applicable. Not every product requires registration; where it does, Bigfoot takes care of it and keeps the confirmation with your project record.

Who should I call first?

Bigfoot. Do not start with the manufacturer. Call 786-886-2088, text Bigfoot, or email [email protected]. We review the issue, determine whether it appears to be workmanship, a manufacturer defect, maintenance, event damage or another cause, coordinate the manufacturer claim where appropriate, and advise you on next steps.

What photos/videos should I send?

A close-up of the problem, a wider shot showing the whole window or door and its surroundings, and a short video if the issue moves or leaks. Add your project address, the approximate installation date, when you first noticed the issue, and whether a storm, impact or other event happened. Photos and videos help us diagnose the issue faster. If possible, email them with a short description of what you’re seeing.

Questions to ask before you buy

What should I compare before choosing a roofing warranty?

Compare five things: the installer’s workmanship term and when it starts; the manufacturer’s material term and what it actually covers; separate component terms for underlayment, finish and accessories; who handles registration and claims; and how labor is handled if the manufacturer approves a defect. A long headline number means little without the answers to the other four.

Is a “lifetime warranty” always better?

Not automatically. “Lifetime” has the meaning the manufacturer gives it in the written warranty, often with a defined non-prorated period followed by prorated coverage and specific conditions. Read what the word covers, for how long it stays non-prorated, and what is excluded before comparing it against a plainly stated term.

Does a manufacturer warranty include installation?

Generally no. A manufacturer warranty covers qualifying defects in the product; installation quality is the installer’s responsibility. That is why Bigfoot provides its own 10-year workmanship warranty, separate from the manufacturer’s coverage.

Why can two products from the same manufacturer have different warranties?

Because manufacturers write warranties by product line, glass makeup, finish and system. Two windows from the same brand can carry different terms if one has a different interlayer or finish; two GAF roofs can differ if one qualifies for an enhanced program and the other does not. The exact product determines the exact term.

Why does the exact coating matter on a metal roof?

Because the finish warranty is written for the specific coating system, and coastal exposure can change its conditions. The base metal and the paint are warranted separately, so the coating you choose sets the finish term you get.

Why does the glass makeup matter on a window warranty?

Because manufacturers warrant glass by its construction. Laminated glass with different interlayers, insulated units and monolithic glass can carry different terms and different exclusions. Knowing the glass makeup on your order tells you which glass term applies.

What questions should I ask a contractor about warranty service?

Ask who you call first when something goes wrong, who files the manufacturer claim, who handles registration, how labor is handled if a manufacturer supplies replacement material, when the workmanship warranty starts, and whether it transfers. Then ask to see the written documents behind the answers.

Who actually helps me if I have a problem five years from now?

With Bigfoot, you contact Bigfoot first. We review the issue, determine what it appears to be, coordinate the manufacturer claim where appropriate and advise you on next steps, within the 10-year workmanship warranty and the manufacturer’s written terms. You are not sent to a manufacturer hotline to work it out alone.

Already a Bigfoot customer?

I do not know what manufacturer I have. What should I do?

Contact Bigfoot. Call, text, or email us and we can review your project record. You do not need the manufacturer, series or model to start a warranty conversation.

I cannot find my paperwork. Can Bigfoot help?

Yes. Call, text, or email us and we can review your project record. Bigfoot keeps the project details, and where a manufacturer registration was required, the registration confirmation as well.

What if the manufacturer changed ownership?

Contact Bigfoot first and we will identify who now services the written warranty for your product. Lawson, for example, is a retired brand whose warranty support transitioned to CWS, with documents that differ by purchase/install period.

What if my product was discontinued?

A discontinued product usually keeps its written warranty; the manufacturer determines how a covered defect is remedied when the original product is no longer made. Contact Bigfoot first and we will coordinate with the manufacturer where appropriate.

What if I sold the house?

Bigfoot’s workmanship warranty may be transferred once to the next homeowner, subject to the written warranty terms and transfer requirements. Manufacturer transferability depends on each written warranty. Contact Bigfoot and we will explain the transfer steps for your project.

Do I contact Bigfoot or the manufacturer?

Bigfoot. Contact Bigfoot first, every time. We review the issue, determine what it appears to be, and coordinate the manufacturer claim where appropriate, so you are not asked to diagnose it yourself.

How long should I expect a manufacturer claim to take?

It varies by manufacturer and by what the claim needs, such as photos, an inspection or replacement material. Bigfoot coordinates the claim, keeps you informed and reviews the labor needed once the manufacturer determines coverage under its written warranty.

Can Bigfoot identify the product from my job record?

Call, text, or email us and we can review your project record. In most cases the job record tells us the manufacturer and system installed, and where a manufacturer registration was required, the registration details as well.
