Impact Windows
What makes a window impact rated?

An impact-rated window is a complete tested assembly—not just reinforced glass. For Miami-Dade HVHZ projects, applicable products are tested for impact, pressure and cyclic loading under standards such as TAS 201, TAS 202 and TAS 203, and must be installed according to their approved documents.

Are impact windows hurricane proof?

No window should be described as completely hurricane proof. Approved impact windows are designed and tested for hurricane-prone conditions, but performance depends on the product approval, design pressure, opening, anchoring, installation and maintenance.

How long do impact windows last?

There is no single fixed lifespan for every impact window. Many systems are designed for decades of service, but their actual lifespan depends on the manufacturer, materials, coastal exposure, maintenance, seal condition and installation quality.

Can impact windows improve energy efficiency?

Yes. Compare the product’s NFRC U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, or SHGC, rather than relying only on the word “impact.” Glass type, Low-E coatings, frame construction, sealing and installation all influence energy performance.

Do impact windows come with screens?

Most operable impact windows can include screens. Fixed picture windows generally do not use screens because they do not open. Screen availability ultimately depends on the selected window series and configuration.

Impact Doors
What impact door styles do you offer?

Bigfoot works with five primary impact-door configurations: entry, sliding, French, bifold and pivot doors. Product availability depends on the opening dimensions, design goals, required design pressure and applicable product approval.

Are impact doors worth it in South Florida?

Yes, for many South Florida homes. Impact doors can support storm protection, security, natural light, noise reduction and curb appeal while eliminating the need to install shutters over that approved opening before a storm.

Can I replace a window with a door?

Yes, some window openings can be converted into doors. Because the project changes the wall opening, it may require structural evaluation, properly sized reinforcement, waterproofing, a permitted plan and inspections.

Roofing
What type of roof is best for South Florida?

There is no single best roof for every South Florida home. Tile, shingle, metal and flat systems have different costs, weights, slopes and maintenance requirements. The correct choice depends on the structure, roof slope, exposure, budget, HOA rules and approved roofing assembly.

How do I know if my roof needs repair or replacement?

A professional roof inspection is the safest way to decide. Localized damage may support a repair, while recurring leaks, widespread deterioration, failing materials, damaged decking or an aging system may make replacement the more practical option.

Do you offer roofing estimates?

Yes. Homeowners can request a free roofing quote or use Bigfoot’s roofing cost estimator to begin exploring a project range. A final written proposal requires the actual roof size, material selection, condition and project scope.

Permits & Process
Do I need a permit for impact windows or doors?

Yes. Impact-window and exterior-door replacements generally require permits and inspections. Miami-Dade and Broward are within Florida’s High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, so the selected product and installation must meet the applicable Florida Building Code and product-approval requirements. Bigfoot helps coordinate permitting for eligible projects.

How long does installation take?

Many residential installation phases are completed within a few days after the products and permits are ready. The actual timeline depends on the number of openings, project complexity, access, inspections, weather and any structural modifications.

Do you use your own installers?

Yes. Bigfoot uses experienced in-house installation crews and manages the project with an emphasis on proper execution, clean job sites, documentation and clear communication from installation through inspection.

How do I get a quote?

You can request a free quote through the Bigfoot website, call the team at 786-886-2088 or begin with the appropriate online estimator. The team will review your project goals, property details and next steps.
