Arch Windows FAQ

Questions homeowners ask before replacing arch windows.

Can arch windows be impact-rated?

Yes. Arch windows can be available with impact-rated glass and systems depending on the opening, product, and project requirements.

Are arch windows more expensive than standard windows?

They can be, because custom shapes often require more precise measurements, engineering, and product selection than standard rectangular windows.

Do arch windows require permits in Miami?

Most impact window replacement projects require proper permitting and documentation. Our team helps guide that process.

Can I replace only one arch window?

In many cases, yes. The best option depends on the condition of the existing window, the opening, and the overall project scope.

Do arch windows help with energy efficiency?

Modern impact windows can help improve comfort, reduce heat transfer, and support better energy performance when properly selected and installed.

Do impact arch windows reduce outside noise?

Impact-rated systems can help reduce outside noise compared to older windows, especially when the frame, glass, and installation are done correctly.

Replace Or Keep?

Not every arch window needs the same answer.

Some homes need a full replacement. Others need a clearer inspection first. The goal is to know what your current windows are actually doing before spending money.

Replacement may make sense if:

  • You feel drafts around the frame
  • There is condensation between panes
  • The window is not impact-rated
  • The frame shows damage or movement

Your window may still be fine if:

  • No air or water leaks are visible
  • The frame is stable
  • The glass performs well
  • You already have storm protection

Custom Arch & Specialty Windows in Miami: Common Questions

Arch and specialty-shape windows are almost always custom-made, so the right questions to ask are a little different. Here are straight answers on shapes, hurricane rating, energy, and warranty.

What arch and specialty window shapes can you make?

We build custom-shaped windows to fit almost any opening — half-round (a full semicircle), eyebrow (a low, gentle arch), quarter-round, full arches, circles, and other custom radius shapes. Most arch windows are fixed (they don't open) to keep the clean shape, but we can also build operable specialty windows where you want ventilation. Because these are made to order, precise measurements matter, which is why we template every opening before fabrication.

Can arch windows be impact-rated for hurricanes?

Yes. Even custom shapes can be built with laminated impact glass and carry a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) with a Design Pressure rating for the opening — required in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. You can verify any product's approval at Miami-Dade Product Control or floridabuilding.org.

Are arch windows energy efficient?

They can be. Look at the U-factor (how well the window insulates — lower is better) and the SHGC (how much of the sun's heat it lets in — lower is better for Miami). A Low-E coating on laminated glass reflects heat and blocks most UV, which helps with cooling costs and protects interiors from fading — worth noting since arch windows often create large glass areas.

What warranty comes with custom arch windows?

Custom windows carry separate warranties for the glass unit, the frame and finish, and our installation labor. A few honest notes: because they're made to order, confirm the warranty applies to custom and specialty shapes (some product lines cover standard sizes differently); the insulated-glass seal has its own term; finish and color-fade coverage is often reduced in coastal salt air; and most warranties must be registered after installation or they're void. We'll spell out exactly what your windows are covered for.
