Arch and specialty-shape windows are almost always custom-made, so the right questions to ask are a little different. Here are straight answers on shapes, hurricane rating, energy, and warranty.
We build custom-shaped windows to fit almost any opening — half-round (a full semicircle), eyebrow (a low, gentle arch), quarter-round, full arches, circles, and other custom radius shapes. Most arch windows are fixed (they don't open) to keep the clean shape, but we can also build operable specialty windows where you want ventilation. Because these are made to order, precise measurements matter, which is why we template every opening before fabrication.
Yes. Even custom shapes can be built with laminated impact glass and carry a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) with a Design Pressure rating for the opening — required in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. You can verify any product's approval at Miami-Dade Product Control or floridabuilding.org.
They can be. Look at the U-factor (how well the window insulates — lower is better) and the SHGC (how much of the sun's heat it lets in — lower is better for Miami). A Low-E coating on laminated glass reflects heat and blocks most UV, which helps with cooling costs and protects interiors from fading — worth noting since arch windows often create large glass areas.
Custom windows carry separate warranties for the glass unit, the frame and finish, and our installation labor. A few honest notes: because they're made to order, confirm the warranty applies to custom and specialty shapes (some product lines cover standard sizes differently); the insulated-glass seal has its own term; finish and color-fade coverage is often reduced in coastal salt air; and most warranties must be registered after installation or they're void. We'll spell out exactly what your windows are covered for.
